چکیده

Insecticide resistance has been known to be prevalent in several insect species including mosquito. It has become a major problem in vector control programs due to pesticide resistance through detoxification enzymes. The present study aimed to compare between the larvicidal action of some organophosphorus insecticides (fenitrothion, malathion and temephos) commonly used in larval control programmes and one bioinsecticide (spinosad). Five populations of Culex pipiens mosquito larvae were tested, one was laboratory (reference) population and the other four were collected from El-Fayoum, Giza, El-Sharkia and Kafr El-Shakh Governorates. The highest larvicidal effect was recorded in spinosad treatment followed by temephos, fenitrothion then malathion. Enzyme – based metabolic mechanisms of spinosad were investigated based on the biochemical assay principle against the laboratory population of c. pipiens. The obtained results showed that there were no significant difference in the activity of alfa esterase, acetylcholinesterase and invertase enzymes after the larvae treatment with spinosad while, there were significant differences in protease and beta esterase activities after 6, 24 and 48 hour post treatment, respectively. The use of spinosad as an alternative larvicide was discussed.

Evaluation of Culex pipiens Populations in a Residential Area with a High Density of Catch Basins in a Suburb of Chicago, Illinois.

The North Shore Mosquito Abatement District applies extended release larvicides including methoprene-based Altosid® XR Extended Residual Briquets to approximately 40,000 catch basins in the southern half of the District's operational area at the beginning of each season. Treatments begin in May and typically again 9 to 10 wk later when larvicide efficacy appears to wane. In 2013 spinosad-based ...

Evaluation of the naturally-derived insecticide spinosad against Culex pipiens L. (Diptera: Culicidae) larvae in septic tank water in Antalya, Turkey.

The naturally-derived insecticide spinosad (Conserve SC) was evaluated against larval Culex pipiens L. (Diptera: Culicidae) under laboratory and field conditions in Antalya, Turkey. Laboratory bioassays showed that the 24 h LC50 and LC90 against late 3rd and early 4th instars were estimated at 0.027 and 0.111 parts per million, respectively, while adult emergence was eliminated at concentration...

The naturally derived insecticide spinosad is highly toxic to Aedes and Anopheles mosquito larvae.

Spinosad is a naturally derived biorational insecticide with an environmentally favourable toxicity profile, so we investigated its potency against mosquito larvae (Diptera: Culicidae). By laboratory bioassays of a suspension concentrate formulation of spinosad (Tracer), the 24 h lethal concentration (LC50) against Aedes aegypti (L.) third and fourth instars was estimated at 0.025 p.p.m. follow...

Susceptibility of field-collected mosquitoes in central New Jersey to organophosphates and a pyrethroid.

Chemical insecticides are the primary means to control mosquitoes, and mosquito control programs must regularly monitor for resistance of mosquito vectors to commonly used insecticides to ensure the efficacy and sustainability of active ingredients. We performed insecticide resistance bioassays to test the susceptibility of field-collected mosquitoes in central New Jersey to 1 larvicide (temeph...
